As an option the innersprings can be outfitted with internal edge support posts which protect the edges of the mattress from crushing and help maintain mattress firmness and shape. They attach to the boder rods inside the mattress. The edge support posts are especially useful if you intend to use the crib mattress as a toddler bed. This mattress meets all federal and state fire codes without chemicals of any kind because the thick layer of organic wool batting is self extinguishing if exposed to a flame. Dimensions: This crib mattress fits standard cribs which have inside dimensions of 28 inches wide by 52 inches long. Mattress depth is approximately 6 inches. To care for your mattress turn it every six months. If needed, air-out your mattress in the sun, and spot clean with a vinegar and water solution, allowing it to dry completely. Please beware of other manufacturers selling what they advertise as organic crib mattresses that are covered in food grade polyethylene. Polyethylene is a type of plastic and it contains phthalates that mimic the hormone estrogen, and phthalates have been linked to a variety of health problems including cancer. Plastic is not an organic material and these polyethylene covered mattresses should not be labeled as organic.

Please don't expose your baby to dangerous chemicals by using petroleum-based foam bedding and vinyl mattress covers! Your baby will spend most of its time sleeping in bed--60% in the first year. Commercially available, non-organic baby mattresses are treated with fire retardant chemicals called PBDEs that build up in the body in ways similar to banned PCBs, and petroleum-based foam mattress material outgases harmful chemicals like formaldehyde.
